Dear DDG-8 Shipmate:

Our “millennium” reunion is set for October 19-21, 2000 in Nashville, Tennessee.

We will be staying at the Marriott Courtyard Downtown, at 170 4th Avenue North, 615-256-0900. Double rooms are $102.00 plus tax, and have coffee makers and hairdryers. When making your reservation, identify yourself as part of the USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8) Reunion Group. This is a unique hotel, originally built as a bank in the 1920’s. The lobby and restaurant are in the old bank lobby, with high ceilings and interesting architecture. Marriott renovated the building in 1998.

October is a great time to visit Nashville-the weather is very pleasant, and the fall colors should still be around. Nashville is known as the world center for country music, but there is much more to Nashville! The music business is not even in the top 5 industries in the city, which has an area population of just over one million. Nashville is sometimes referred to as the “Athens of the South” because of its universities and publishing industry. Grand Opera as well as Grand ol’ Opry is available here, along with theater, a fine symphony, renown botanical garden, and much, much more.

Cost for the reunion will be $50.00 per person, excluding hotel room and alcoholic beverages (except for the Jack Daniels BBQ). The cost includes the opening reception, and the Jack Daniels tour and BBQ. A schedule of events is enclosed.

If you wish to attend the Grand Ol’ Opry on Saturday night, please so indicate on the reunion registration form, and return your form as soon as possible. The Opry books up many months in advance, and obtaining a block of tickets for October will be difficult after May. Also, a 25% deposit is required for group reservations, so I will need your check for the tickets as soon as the group booking is made.

As soon as I have received your reunion registration form and payment, I will send a package of information on area attractions, tours, and maps. I am excited about seeing lots old friends and shipmates.

Sincerely,

CAPT. Doug Jeffords USNR (ret)
ACIC, NAV, GUN 62-65

P. S. If you have not sent in your dues for 1999, please send $25.00 to Mary Lou as soon as possible!!
